What is Shea Butter?                                  
Shea butter is the fat obtained from the nuts of the fruit of the shea tree; also know as the karite tree.  It is naturally high in vitamin E, A, F,cinnamic acid and other elements which are essential for good skin balance.  Our shea butter is produced using the traditional natural process.  It  is extracted without the use of chemicals, and has not been bleached or deodorized, therefore has not lost any of it’s healing capabilities, and has it’s characteristic aroma. Once you smell pure natural Shea Butter, you will never forget it's scent. In fact, some first time users of Shea Butter occasionally say the smell of Shea Butter is not the most attractive, however, after 10 or 20 minutes on the skin, the natural aroma of the our butter can not be detected. 

Virgin versus refined
There are inexpensive ways to process shea butter. Refined shea butter is produced through solvent extraction which removes most of the vitamins, rejuvenating, healing and antiseptic properties of raw shea butter.  Many companies use hexane to extract shea butter from the shea nuts because it produces a larger amount of butter at a cheaper price.  Along with the serious health risks posed from using hexane-extracted shea butter, much of the natural healing benefits of shea butter are lost in the process.  Hexane is not used in the extraction of our shea butter.
